DataLink is an excellent example of Virtual Spectator's
ongoing ability to re-purpose existing and new
technologies to bring exciting content to televised
sport.
The system consists of:
Pocket PC's Mobile Phones Database Server Graphics
Delivery (CG or VR)
Virtual Spectator use existing name brand technology
wherever possible to ensure compatibility and
serviceability. All of Virtual Spectator systems
are designed to run on the Windows NT and CE platforms.
THE WAY IT WORKS
The DataLink system enables the user to collect
data from the field and relay it back to the broadcast
compound in "Near Real Time" enabling the live
use of the statistics generated during play.
The system is technically inspired and simple
to operate. The following processes guarantee
a data collection system that works.
Operators collect data via a custom interface
on a pocket PC
This data is then transmitted to a mobile phone
via a Bluetooth wireless connection in real time
The phone then sends the data packets via the
GPRS or SMS network
Virtual Spectator's graphics and database server
receives the data
The data is interpreted by Virtual Spectator's
software and stats and/or graphics are produced
for delivery to television, the internet or mobile
devices.
THE OPPORTUNITIES
The opportunities to use DataLink are numerous.
Wherever real time or near real time statistical
data needs to be collected for television or the
web, DataLink will provide a cost effective means
of doing so.
Some applications that Virtual Spectator has identified
include:
Multiple Player tracking for its PlayTrac application
Statistics generation for Football, Tennis, Basketball,
Golf, Motor Sport, Yachting
